Zelia Bastos is the runner of the orphanage Michiko Malandro and Atsuko Jackson grew up in. She has sold children to families, though her questionable demeanor isn't all that bad as the children make her out to be. She is in love with a local bullfighter who is much younger than her.
History[]
When Michiko as a child tries to steal a box of money from Zelia she gets caught red handed and after some physical aggression on both sides she asks Michiko "if she won't trust her a little?".
As an adult, Michiko decides to leave Hana "Hatchin" Morenos Zelia's orphanage as she finds their situation too dangerous for a child so Michiko tries to leave Hatchin there until she can find Hiroshi. At first Zelia takes Hatchin in but after finding her useless due to Hatchin having no money she kicks the girl out, leading to Hatchin getting kidnapped.
When Michiko angrily confronts Zelia about this they get into a fight with Zelia getting the upper hand.
Appearance and Personality[]
She is a sturdy woman with curly gray hair. Despite being an elderly woman she can still beat up an adult Michiko.
She is selfish who only cares about money, alcohol and cigarettes. She tends to masquerade as a caring orphanage matron, but she is the opposite. She states that she never did like running the orphanage too much.
